Smells like Team Spirit. video interviews and upcoming publication. June – September 2014.
Smells like Team Spirit. is a project gathering interviews with protagonists of the 1990s in Western Europe, echoing the book by Douglas Coupland Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture representative of an era. The beginning of this decade represents a particular rupture in the history of Europe and whole World. The fall of the Berlin Wall, the Gulf crisis, the emancipation of post-soviet bloc countries – all these accelerated by the rise of the Internet and communications revolution – marked a whole generation of emerging artists, critics and gallerists who have involuntarily been included in the process. Interviewed by the curators and former participants of the 23rd Session of the École du Magasin in Grenoble, they are now telling their histories of that time. The conversations proposed draw an outline of a decade with its landmarks – such as the exhibitions: Freeze, Traffic, Les Ateliers du Paradise; significant places: Air de Paris, Le Consortium, Grenoble, New York, Cologne, Berlin; concepts and theories: utopia, relational aesthetic, YBA, crisis.
